Next Big teams to hit the island

We are just days away from the second edition of the annual international Carlton 7’s which will be staged on the 27th and 28th of November at the Sugathadasa stadium in Colombo.  The tournament will play host to number of sides from prominent rugby playing countries. Below are some of the teams that will play in the tournament,

Digicel Fiji Barbarians, New Zealand legends, Samoa Babarians, Australian legends, South African vipers and Kenyan Shujaa (which means Warriors in Swahili).

The governing body of Sri Lankan rugby- Sri Lanka rugby football union is still in the process of finalizing the last teams for the tournament and have promised that it will be a memorable competition. Last year’s Carlton cup winners Digicel Fiji Barbarians will have some known names in the sevens arena in their line up. The scrum half position will be taken up by nippy Vucaqa and the center position will be played by Osea Kolonisau who was devastating last year with his power runs and aggressive defence.

One of the main attractions for the players will be the ‘players buffet’ which will be catered from one of the finest hotels in Sri Lanka- Cinnamon Grand Colombo and it will start from 10.00 am and will go on till 6.00 pm. The organisers have also stated that the treatment that the players and officials will get is second to none. One of the most successful elements in the first edition of the international Carlton 7’s was the extra ordinary ice bath. This was proven to be very useful for all the players as they commended the organisers for their brilliant idea of revolutionising the ordinary ice bath. Some of the players from other countries even stated that this was one of the best ‘ice baths’ they have ever experienced. The organizers have put together two ice baths, each being able to hold up to 12 players (which can include the whole team). After a tiring match both teams will have the luxury of getting into one of these ice baths which will dramatically shorten the recovery time for the players.

At the back of the players enclosures the organizers have put up marquees for the players to rest and sleep. The tournament will also have up to date medical facilities to attend to player’s injuries and also other facilities which will be useful for them. Another interesting element once again for the players is the industrial fans with the ice sprays which will enable them to stay cool and will be specially beneficial for the players from colder countries.
